Maribel moved to El Portal in 2001 because she wanted a house in a good neighborhood with older, charming homes and a backyard with trees. Maribel is a Miami Dade-County public school teacher for 21 years serving as the Museums Magnet Lead Teacher at WJ Bryan Elementary for 5 years. Maribel is caring about her Village and is proud to serve on the Resiliency and Sustainability Task Force. Her favorite thing about the Village is its proximity to everything; arts, culture, airport, beaches, sports, etc, and the fact that she is part of a thriving community. Maribel enjoys El Portal events associated with the Little River Clean-Up. As an El Portal Woman’s Club board member, she encourages and supports events that people will look forward to coming to every year such as “Monthly Movie Night”. Now, as a Task Force member, she is honored to assist the Village in creating and implementing new policies for the betterment and safety of the Village. The project she is most passionate about is Caroling through the Village. She sees the world through the eyes of an artist, often observing people, music, and places in a way that inspires her to express herself positively. She loves arts and crafts and is most inspired by her daughter. Maribel Trujillo-Fruitstone is also a board member of Fantasy Theater Factory.
