Councilperson Vimari Roman

Vimari Roman, Councilperson Seat #2

Councilperson Vimari Roman was elected into her first two year term for the El Portal Village Council in 2016 and is currently serving her second two year term 2018-2020. Councilperson Roman was born in Miami, and thanks to her father’s career in Hospitality had the opportunity to live the first ten years of her life in Puerto Rico, followed by Pennsylvania, and New York before making Miami her home.

Councilperson Roman has lived in the Village of El Portal since Jan 2005. Her involvement in the village began shortly after going into business for herself when she was afforded more time to engage by attending Council Meetings. She met residents that were very involved in leading the then El Portal ALE Committee and they inspired her to do more. It was at the 2013 Charrette where she became excited about the future of the Village of El Portal seeing the commonalities in the vision the residents had for the Village. In 2014, she met then Councilperson Cubillos who was running for Mayor of the Village of El Portal and decided to offer her support. Upon Mayor Cubillos being sworn in, she volunteered to become the Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force where she collaborated to execute several initiatives. Her first major initiative was in 2015 with the creation of the annual El Portal Art Fair, which she planned and organized for two consecutive years as a volunteer, and in 2018 as Councilperson. The purpose of the event was to bring our community together, showcase the beautiful village and the arts with the involvement of local Miami artists. In addition to the Art Fair, in 2016 she started the monthly Family Food Truck Night. As Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force she led many other initiatives such as the Citizens Crime Watch, and the funding for 4th of July flags that were placed throughout the Village in 2016, and much more.

Councilperson Roman has always been an innovative and top-performing entrepreneur, with a widely diverse background in the corporate sector but serving in Public Office was never on her radar. She decided to run for office in 2016 because after volunteering, going to meetings, attending events, and doing what she needed to do to get to know the village, she felt that the Council did not have the representation and engagement required to lead into the future. She believes that everything happens for a reason and is grateful to be able to utilize her strengths to contribute to the community that she loves so dearly.

Before leaping into the entrepreneurial world in 2013, she led a successful career in Hospitality for over 20 years. As a leader within the Hospitality profession she led, coached and mentored many top performing teams.  In 2013, she decided to go on her own and as a Certified Meetings Manager (CMM) she created Be Productive Meetings & Events, LLC where her focus was to assist corporations with Strategic Meetings Management (SMM). In 2014, she realized that she missed the leadership and coaching component of her corporate career and got certified as a Strategic Intervention & Leadership Coach. Today, Councilperson Roman is focusing on growing her coaching practice at Be Productive Coaching where as a Career/Leadership and Life Coach she helps professionals that have outgrown their careers overcome dissatisfaction & skepticism while amplifying their unique gifts for purposeful & meaningful work.

Councilperson Roman has also served and held different leadership positions within several organizations such as Meeting Professionals International Board of Directors, she advocated and was the 2017 Chair for the South Florida committee of Global Meetings Industry Day, and in 2016 when the new El Portal Women’s Club was formed she was a founding board member holding the Office of Treasurer and playing a key role in helping the Club attain their 501c3 status. She has also volunteered with Dress for Success Miami and on Sunday’s she volunteers as a lector at St. Martha’s Catholic Church.

Her motto is that “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” and this is true for all that she has been able to accomplish within the Village. She lives on NE 90th Street with her loving husband Nariman and Shadow their beautiful Chocolate Lab.

“I am forever grateful for the residents that have given me their constant support. I love El Portal, this is a very exciting time for our community and I look forward to continue to work towards supporting our neighbors of El Portal in this new term.” Councilperson Vimari Roman
