Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with fellow El Portal residents. This month takes the time to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week was approved by President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988 on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

Independence Day Celebration

Come celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 3rd with your El Portal neighbors. Hot dogs & soda will be served. The event will be held from 11am-3pm. We hope to see you there! Participation is Free. Please contact the Village Clerk for additional information.
Armed Forces Day/5K walk/run

Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May. Registration is between 7:30am and 8:30am. Walk starts at 8:30am. Easter Egg Hunt 2010

El Portal residents couldn't have asked for better Saturday morning weather! Sunshine, little to no cloud coverage and So many smiling faces! Councilperson Cubillos-Pace organized the activities that were led by El Portal Police Officers. After the egg hunt, the children participated in an egg coloring contest and a game of Simon says.
March Senior Luncheon

State of the Village Address 2010

The State of the Village Address was attended by many and enjoyed by all. Soloist Shira Ridley gifted the audience with her beautiful voice and performances by Step 4 Life had the crowd dancing with them. The honorable Mayor Joyce A. Davis delivered a well accepted speech and the villagers were happy to hear the good news. It definitely "Exceeded Expectations". El Portal Police officers and residents served delicious food and drinks side by side. All photographs were taken by Forrest Bowen.
February Senior Luncheon

Delicious food was served by our officers and good times were enjoyed by all who attended! Just take a look at all the smiling faces in our photos taken by Forrest Bowen. This month our Senior Luncheon had a very important historical theme. Here's a little history lesson: "Black History Month is the successor to Negro History Week which was initiated on February 12, 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. Woodson an African American historian, author and journalist chose February because it included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, whom he believed had significantly impacted the lives of Black Americans." January Senior Luncheon

Village of El Portal's Public Affairs committee's first Sr. Luncheon of 2010. Event hosted by Vice Mayor Harold Mathis, Jr. & Councilperson Claudia Cubillos. The El Portal Police Dept. helped serve the delicious meal enjoyed by our residents. All photographs taken by Forrest Bowen.
Toys for Tots 2009

The Village of El Portal's Mayor, staff and Police department brought joy to children from the local neighborhood. Smiling faces were everywhere as Chief Eugene Morales played the part of Santa. Mayor Joyce A. Davis and several of the police officers handed out toys as the children eagerly awaited their turn in line outside Village Hall.
2nd Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Luncheon

Quite a few of our beloved seniors came out to celebrate Thanksgiving lunch with us on November 25th. Ms. Claudia's students helped greet guests and the Village of El Portal Police Department helped serve the delicious meal. Good food and times were enjoyed by all who attended.
