February Senior Luncheon

February Senior Luncheon

[ February 17, 2010; 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. ] Delicious food was served by our officers and good times were enjoyed by all who attended! Just take a look at all the smiling faces in our photos taken by Forrest Bowen.

This month our Senior Luncheon had a very important historical theme.

Here’s a little history lesson: “Black History Month is the successor to Negro History Week which was initiated on February 12, 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. Woodson an African American historian, author and journalist chose February because it included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, whom he believed had significantly impacted the lives of Black Americans.”

State of the Village Address

[ February 25, 2010; 6:30 pm; ] The State of the Village Address was attended by many and enjoyed by all. Soloist Shira Ridley gifted the audience with her beautiful voice and performances by Step 4 Life had the crowd dancing with them. The honorable Mayor Joyce A. Davis delivered a well accepted speech and the villagers were happy to hear the good news. It definitely “Exceeded Expectations”. El Portal Police officers and residents served delicious food and drinks side by side.
